Musings on the Most Ridiculous Band I Can't Stop Listening To

Things Bobby Is And Isn’t

IS:

  • A Grateful Dead.
  • A handsome sumbitch.
  • A family man.
  • A Ratdog.
  • A picker.
  • A grinner.
  • A lover.
  • A sinner.
  • A non-non-playing motherfucker.
  • A Wolf Brother.

ISN’T:

  • A Flying V guy.
  • Seriously: That shit just looks wrong.
  • I wish I hadn’t seen it, honestly.
  • But I did, and so now you have to.
  • We have a complicated relationship, don’t we, Enthusiasts?

he really is a handsome sumbitch. the guitar is dorky. but by far most important: i am so glad that you are not in the big house anymore!

  2. Tor Haxson

You got so distracted with the Flying V that you forgot to include some other points of reasonable contention.

    Is he or isn’t he:
    1. Best Friends with Jimi Hendrix
    2. The Left Hand of some jazz pianist who I forget the name of (early onset dementia)
    3. A member of the Bohemian Grove
    4. Best Dog parent in the band by a long shot.

Is: Sharpie huffer, but only socially.

    • Luther Von Baconson

Doesn’t like the Dual Sharpie. “The little cap gets stuck in the big cap. Sharpie goes stale, you see”

  4. Mean, Green, Devil Eating Machine

Guitar signing was a lucrative little sideline. We signed quite a few things for the band.

When I thought about “Bobby Isn’t,” the first thing that popped into my brain was of him holding a Michael Rutherford-esque double-necked guitar. (Love me some Mike, don’t get me wrong, but that image juxtaposed with Bobert was just WRONG). Before I posted my “Bobby Is Not a Twin-Necked Guitar Guy” comment, though, I succumbed to Research, and Google presented me with this, as a first option . . .

There’s always a Dead connection. And, apparently, there’s always a TotD connection to boot. Blast my eyes!!!

For what it’s worth (probably nothing) in the McIntosh commercial pretending to be a documentary that’s on YTube right now, you can see a white Gibson double with a standard neck and a short neck that’s either a mandolin or a soprano guitar. I think Robertson plays a similar one in the Last Waltz somewhere.

(Totally unrelated to anything in this post, but I was writing about the King this morning, so had to send folks over here for some semi-fictionality . . . . https://jericsmith.com/2021/02/28/favorite-songs-by-favorite-artists-series-two-18-elvis-presley/ )

Bob Mould is the only man alive that should be photographed with a Flying V

Mr Haxson Bobby likes to fancy himself Mccoy Tyners left hand, that is when he’s not coming in off the trail in West Texas and cracking some wranglers and rustlers in the jaw with a bottle, but I digress.
