All bands should be forced to include Louie Louie on their first album. There’s nowhere to hide in that song.

I saw Toots and The Maytals open for The Who; it wasn’t pretty. Put another way, being the opening band for The Who in a big sports arena isn’t a winning proposition.
Carlin
Nice. I can hear the bit right now.
True, but I’ve seen a couple of bands pull it off, most notably the Dead themselves (Oakland Coliseum, 1976). Also the Clash (same place, 1982). Lynyrd Skynyrd (Cow Palace, 1973) didn’t fare so well. The Who’s crowd wasn’t into Southern rock, especially from a then-unknown band. That concert is infamous for other reasons, however: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O-N8MZ9ilk
Fantastic never saw this before, I was at another show where a drummer came up out of the crowd to replace one He was better than the original though, I remember seeing one of jimmy page passing out on stage too.
Awwww . . . Sad morning news. Watched a film called “Yardie” a few weeks back. It was good. Partially set in Kingston gangster scene circa 1972. That made me then put “The Harder They Come” OST on the home and car jukeboxes. Toots’ two cuts are so so good on that album. Probably heresy, but I think “Sweet and Dandy” may be the best thing on the LP.
Not heresy, but really a toss up between “Sweet and Dandy” and “Pressure Drop”
Roots, Toots and Boots! Funky Kingston remake is a classic. Saw Toots many times – he was a big part of many lives and his music will live on forever. In an unrelated note ‘ the Catch a Fire‘ classic album series on amazon prime is great and directed by Jeremy Marre. “Rockers” the best movie with the best soundtrack/musician actors is also in amazon prime. RIP Toots.
Thanks for the tips Carlos, will try and catch those movies
Thank you for the suggestion. RIP Toots.
Love this album “Toots in Memphis”
The Jamaican Elvis as my friend Josh calls him. Saw Toots do a full NYE set with Woody Hayes a while back. Fuck this ronus.
Never thought I’d see the Carlin sketch get brought in here – well done.
RIP Toots.
