No one loves you like I do, Enthusiasts. Now I want everyone to dress exclusively in taupe and send me all their money.
Don’t start a death cult.
But I wanna.
No.
Aw.

I would have won that bet. David gans played it a long time ago. In a galaxy far,far away.
Sounds fantastic!
Damn.
Interesting that Bobby is playing essentially “standard” rhythm guitar here and not his trademark-ish color/fills jazzy McCoy Tyner style. Even on his solo jaunts and with Wasserman and now Wolf Bros he doesn’t play “standard” rhythm style guitar parts. A nice treasure to listen to.
This really is remarkable, for so many reasons. I had no idea Gans had ever played such a thing. This has to be an Ace outtake, which tells us a lot. First of all, it’s a hint that there may be other Ace outtakes. Bobby has faintly hinted at some early sessions “with other people” (i.e. not the Dead) that did not go well. Who were the other people? Did the takes survive?
Given the presumed date of this, however, which is roughly January ’72, it tells us a lot. The straight ahead rhythm guitar tells us a lot too. In early 72, the Dead were planning a studio album to follow American Beauty. It was only DK’d because of the mid-72 deal where the Dead abandoned Warners. Thus this demo was for an upcoming Grateful Dead studio album which was never actually produced. I have to ask–did the band’s studio time at Wally Hedier’s produce any other demos for the never-made third part of the trilogy? A boy can dream, right?
What I remember of this deadhead hour was that mickey hart asked him to do it. Sounds like a hotel room.
