Sy Hersh wasn’t always a crank; go read him running down the facts on Sidney Korshak in the Times from 1976. Four parts!
- The Contrasting Lives of Sidney Korshak.
- Korshak’s Power Rooted in Labor.
- Major Corporations Eager To Seek Korshak’s Advice.
- Korshak Again The Target Of A Federal Investigation.
(SPOILER: The investigation did not pan out. Sidney Korshak was never even indicted.)
Nick Tosches, as usual, foregoes the dry recounting for sturm und drang and mythical machismo. Read him, too.
And now you know who Sidney Korshak was.
A younger relative of Sidney Korshak’s, a nephew I believe, was part of the light show at The Barn in Scotts Valley (near Santa Cruz) in 1966-67. The story is long and complicated, and the only published work on it (mine) is outdated

but the essence of it is that David Nelson’s psychedelic band, The New Delhi River Band, were pretty much the house band at The Barn in Fall 66-Spring 67. So Sidney Korshak was not so far from sinking his hooks into the Fillmore scene, except for the fact that he didn’t because there wasn’t a dime in it. But if we are playing six degrees of Kevin Bacon, there are a lot fewer degrees between Jerry Garcia and Sidney Korshak than you might think at first glance.

The Korshak business is buried in some emails, at some unknown point I will unravel all of that.
Thats a helluva story Tosches wrote- thanks for the tip.
Did I read the name Sidney Korshak and immediately think of Arnold Horshack? Yes I did.
Am I proud of that fact? Jury’s still out on that one …
Thanks for the tip on these articles!
Agree with you on both counts!
Possibly the names have all changed since you’ve hung around
