Synth bass is good bass.
I distinctly remember where I was, who I was with, and what we were doing the first time I heard that song upon its release . . . . what a MIND-BLOWER it is, and how fantastic it was to see it actually turn into a hit.
The first band I ever played in was getting together around this time, and we were inspired by Parliament and Funkadelic, among others. I was the token white devil in the band. They fired me soon thereafter when my voice changed and I couldn’t hit the high notes, singing or on guitar.
Bernie didn’t have that problem, not being white or challenged by the high notes. He sang lead vox on one of my fave Funkadelic songs, “Hit It And Quit It” . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBXU2t4hodo
