As I’m sure we all know the femmes did in fact open for the grateful dead, one time long ago.
Remember hearing the show thinking it a bit of a lyrical juxtaposition.

The promoter I believe gave them the gig for some local Midwestern flavour.
I had this record just after it was released and it was very fresh then, turned a lot of people who heard it (and subsequent albums – blind leading the naked, hallowed ground, mcheck them out)?into musicians let me tell you,
Peace.
Yes, Buckeye Lake ’91. I remember Billy and who I assumed was his son watching the Femmes from the side of the stage. They were gone by the time they played the song with profanity, “Why can’t I get one more…”
If I remember correctly, David Crosby was at this show, watching the Dead from the side of the stage. If only he’d joined in after Space for Laughing or something else from that album.
Still a pretty good show. “T right here in the Heartland,” as Bobby sang and it was about as heartland is it gets.
