“Greater than” is precisely the sort of unsupportable hyperbole that we come here to read. No one can take seriously a claim that, as an artist, Jimi Hendrix accomplished less than Sha Na Na. In terms of the performances at Woodstock? There’s something to be said for that, although I’ve listened to Jimi’s performance many, many more times, and value the “Villanova Junction” section far more than the hippie-annoying flash and filigree of those gold-lamé figures on the Woodstock stage. But, they do make an impression, and a plea for some fun-in-the-mud.
Nobody gave Jimi a TV show like Sha Na Na’s, that my whole family built its watching schedule around for a couple of years.
So, yeah. Obviously.
