“Dave, I’ve written a new song.”
“So have I, Ray.”
“Yes, but mine’s actually gonna make it onto the record, so let’s talk abut that.”
“I hate you.”
“It’s called Animal Farm.”
“Oh. About the book?”
“No. It’s about a farm. With animals on it.”
“I hate you.”

This was originally released as a Dave solo song. Ray must have gotten jealous when Dave got to appear alone on German TV:

Dave wrote some great tunes. Death of a Clown, Strangers, Living on a Thin Line…
As mentioned in these parts before I consider myself something of a connoisseur of rock sibling rivalry. I’m not sure why but there’s something endearing about the Davies enduring hatred for each other. Of course pre-rona there were rumors of a reunion tour which would have been filled with comic acrimony and petty violence between old men. Sigh.
I’ve often suggested to my daughters that they form a band so that they can hate each other properly. Speaking of which if you ever wanted to venture into thoughts on the Heart I would endorse it.
