…in my ongoing thesis, P-Funk was the black Grateful Dead. Thank you for coming to Santa Fe to hear me present my findings.
(The Brides of Funkenstein were one of two–two!–girl groups spun off from the main band. For this album, the Brides were a trio made up of Dawn Silva, Sheila Horne, and Jeanette McGruder. Michael Hampton plays the Garcialike-in-length guitar solo.)
Love watching them on stage.
all my Funkenstein-Ex’s live in Texas
Funk Symposia Mixer is in the Buddy Ebsen Room, pre-funk is in the Tex Beneke Lounge
Your thesis is solid. My only P-Funk show was in Portland, OR at the erstwhile La Luna some time in the mid-late 90’s. They did not stop for 4 straight hours, not even during a drummer change that included a complete new kit setup. Guess the first guy had another gig to get to.
I love it when Thoughts On P-Funk occasionally also comment some upon the Grateful Dead. I always think of it as a bonus.
