Musings on the Most Ridiculous Band I Can't Stop Listening To

Oh Veneta, My Sweet Chiquita

Wait, it’s vuh-NEE-tuh? I always thought it was vuh-NEH-tuh.

The statements “I am pleased by the high level of viscosity” and “WHEEEEEE it’s slippy” transmit the same thought.

Re: vuh-NEE-tuh—wait till you hear how Oregonians pronounce the word ‘Couch’ as in Portland’s ‘Couch Street’.

      How? Now I gotta know.

Additionally, since Oregon is in The West (where the men are men and the sheep are nervous), Veneta’s first syllable is a short “eh” rather than a rounded “uh”—veh-NEE-tuh. Oregon is pronounced “OR-eh-gun”, not “or-REE-gun” “or-ree-GONE”, The Dalles is pronounced “the DALS” (rhymes with “pals”), and as occidentalpoppy hinted, Aloha is pronounced “uh-LOW-uh”.

This is what happens when your state is settled by the sort of ofay mofos who thought 19th century Iowa was too ethnically diverse.

It is actually Ven like the diagram nita. Couch like hooch. Wanna know how they say Aloha? You don’t they are nice people but it is hard not to think less of them once you know about Aloha.

I take that back, I’ve heard Vun as well as Ven.

I’m almost scared to ask at this point.

If it makes you feel any better, I pronounced it veh-nuh-TAH until last year.

There ain’t much in Veneta apart from the Oregon County Fairgrounds, so don’t be concerned.
