I lived on Long Island from ’76 to ’80. High school years, deep in the heart of Nassau County.
Billy Joel was the soundtrack to the worst bits of the experience, and his fans were the worst of all possible Long Islanders. So many teenage parties with so much bad music from Billy, and so many shouty bros and shrieky girls hollering along with him.
I celebrate the guy’s entire catalog…except for We Didn’t Start The Fire…a man’s got to have standards.

100% agree!
You may be right.
Being the son of a rabbi I guess I’ll have to cop to the latter.
I like Billy Joel, but I do think he sort of “borrowed” styles as the years went on.
Sure all artists do that to some extent, but by the mid 80’s I felt any trace of pure Joel was gone and he was just trying things on.
Let’s divide it into pre Glass Houses and post Glass Houses.
Most Pre is good, most post felt borrowed to me.

I find him interesting in that I love quite a few of his songs but also hate several of his songs.

Billy Joel, Tom Hanks, and Bruce are 3 most overrated humans
