Musings on the Most Ridiculous Band I Can't Stop Listening To

Someone Please Buy This For Me

Sure, it’s eight grand, and isn’t technically a Travis Bean, but think of how much joy I bring you on a near-daily basis.

This is the Bean that fills me with trembly covets . . .

I also get desperately desirous in the prescense of Chapman Sticks.

Not being snarky, but would you know what to do with a Stick? Tony Levin seems to get great music from one, but few of us are Tony Levin!

I have played one. I made pleasant noises on it. It was TLev who first exposed me to it in ’82.

People don’t eschew pianos because they aren’t Rachmaninoff. Dunno why anyone would pass on a Stick just because Tony Levin exists . . . .

You’re absolutely correct, and if TL is one inspiration, you’d probably make music you’d enjoy and others would too. I just wanted to learn a little more about your interest in one.
I can imagine ToTD having gear urges, but it helps me to know that he’s owned guitars before and know a little of how to play them.
I’m sitting in a room with a 1949 Martin guitar. I don’t really have the time to practice, and have had three hand operations since I did… I keep thinking I should get it “tightened up” and sell it to someone who’ll play it…

I’ve actually held and very briefly played a bean. Probably was a tb1000 like Jerry’s second one. Koa body. Heavy as all heck. Neck was cold. Still the not a plucked 30 years or so ago is still sustaining.

    • Thoughts On The Dead

Koa is heavy, isn’t it? I read where TB tried to use light woods to balance out the weight of the aluminum necks.

I think it is yeah. Looks really dense. Jerry needed his guitars to be at least a dozen pounds.

Mayer is playing a bean at the forum as we speak!

And a heavy neck requires a heavy body, lest one suffers the inconveniences of “neck dive.”
