Musings on the Most Ridiculous Band I Can't Stop Listening To

With One Hand Waving Free

Before the bike wreck and snapped neck, before the tossed-off shows and acting roles, before he found Jesus and the Hurricane, there was just him and his goddamned words.

Holy crap I’m old. I was 5 when this came out. How sweet and innocent his voice sounds. And the diction. nuff said that

Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin’ ship
My senses have been stripped, my hands can’t feel to grip
My toes too numb to step
Wait only for my boot heels to be wanderin’
I’m ready to go anywhere, I’m ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way
I promise to go under it

The one on the right is Dr Phibes.

      • August West

Haha I had to google Dr Phibes. And I thought I had seen every vincent price film. Well done. 🙂

The Abominable Dr Phibes and Dr Phibes Rises Again are classics. While the biblical morality of the first film is truly epic, the magnificent opening scene of the sequel, where Anton Phibes awakes from his brooding hibernation and plays his tricked out theatre organ elevator, emerging from his weird basement lair into the bombed out wreckage of his house, only to find the priceless papyrus stolen from the safe, seems impossible to top, until it is surpassed by Oddjob and the mechanical snakes.
