Musings on the Most Ridiculous Band I Can't Stop Listening To

You’ll Never Guess Why His Name Was Meat

The mention of the Porky’s trilogy caused Valued Commentator DJ50000000000000000000000 to bring this to our attention, and it’s mind-melting. Look at this murderer’s row! They must have spent more money on the soundtrack than the picture!

So I ask you, the Rock Nerd Community, a question: What’s the WORST movie with the BEST soundtrack? Answers in the Comment Section, please.

    Ooooo! Good Rock Nerd Question!

First one that pops to mind is “Maximum Overdrive,” a shit Steven King movie with an AC/DC sountrack.

I liked “Repo Man” a lot back in the day, both movie and soundtrack, but I suspect that if I checked back now, the movie might actually be pretty shit, though still a great soundtrack.

    Hmmmm. What else. Hmmmmm.

“Performance” might be a contender, God rest Nic Roeg’s brilliant soul for this beautiful trainwreck.

“The Crow” is pretty great to listen to, and pretty terrible to watch . . .

Ooh, Memo From Turner. Best Stones song that none of the Stones played on. Never seen the flick.

      • JES

You need to watch the flick. Seriously. Mick talks exactly the way you write him in it . . .

    Oh this is easy,

and you can close the comment section on this post after I win this..

    Tommy..

The Who’s Tommy is a horrible movie

    • Thoughts On The Dead

I feel like both this and The Wall shouldn’t count.

      • Tor Haxson

Damn it, I respect your judgement..

But we should be allowed to talk at some point about how bad that movie was.

I actually like “Tommy” (movie), but “The Wall” (movie) is truly as awful as the album is great. But, yeah, I kinda sorta think that a movie made from an album that existed on its own first does seem to not be in the spirit of the question . . . .

      This is how Bernie feels,

I win and then the rules change so that I don’t win.

      • JES

You win with that comment, for sure!!

Though would have been even better if you could have worked in an Iowa joke . . . .

Probably heresy, but “The Harder They Come” is actually a pretty bleh movie with an utterly brilliant soundtrack (even if it included a couple of the same songs twice to fill up the platter) . . .

I routinely cite “Liquid Sky” as the greatest film score ever and make people watch the movie when I can . . . I think it is great, but nobody else has ever agreed with me, so it probably fits the bill, objectively speaking.

The soundtrack to Velvet Goldmine is great,

    But was the movie good?

I saw it, and I liked it, but mostly I liked listening to it.

Wasn’t the story line something like..
    “David Bowie is a poser”

  7. JES

Oh!!! “Rock and Roll High School”!! Terrible movie, wonderful soundtrack!

Can we talk about Nils Lofgren or something?

      • JES

Great guitar player. Terrible Shakespearean actor.

    The Grateful Dead Movie

Would “Magical Mystery Tour” count? It is mostly unwatchable dreck (except when the Bonzos are on), but many great songs in it . . . . Just not sure if its TV special provenance disqualifies it as a proper film.

I’m surprised that no one has mentioned Zabriske Point yet.

    • Tor Haxson

I wanted to , but that would mean I would have to watch the movie..

Or even if it’s not, I suspect Matt Dillon can be found near the scene of the crime.

“Slade in Flame.” Epic cinematic wrongness.

Your question assumes that I think Porky’s Revenge is a bad movie. And you’re right, I do. I actually came across this movie on late night cable in a motel room in Atlantic City. Couldn’t believe the soundtrack. We had just seen the Furthur band at the Convention Hall. So, there’s always a Dead connection.

Also, The Crawling King Snakes were Robert Plant, Dave Edmunds & Phil Collins.
